Crossing and Odyssey II
Crossing and Odyssey IIA continuation of a series on the immigrant experience and a novel transition beyond distinct portraits or scenes in past pieces, this work blends both the mountainous scenery and the people who experience a journey to this new world. This piece highlights the general struggles of immigrants through my perspective as a Chinese immigrant artist, carved into historical mountainsides through a rocky portrait. A flying bird crosses the rocky face and mountainsides with great strength, celebrating the boundless vitality through which current generations face modern challenges. Transient clouds, both natural or the contrails of airliners overhead, contrast with the permanence of the stone portrait and mountainside. Vivaciously bubbling streams carve away at the mountainside, celebrating both life’s strength and difficulties.
Crossing and Wondering I
Crossing and Wondering I“Crossing and Wondering I”, Etching. A pure expression of power, through the lens of a dream. Aquatint methods illuminate broken eggshells and white sands to create a mysterious silhouette. A clock, or a human head? All of this floats in the waves, over which birds fly, in which boats glide, and through which frogs stand up to jump, as if in a dream.

Crossing IIII"Crossing 4" is the fourth etching in a series on immigration. The Forbidden City in Beijing is a place that represents the past Chinese immigrants leave behind and long for at times. The red wall, orange tile roof, and summer lotus in Beihai, etc. are symbols well-known in the hearts of every overseas Chinese. The image of a crane flies right above the rocks behind the Forbidden City. The center is filled with rolling hills of uneven height and mysterious caves of unknown depth, and the summer palace lies quietly in the distance. This is the intersection of the whole work, contrasting with the lotus pond in the forefront. As "Crossing 3" is "Over the Bridge", then this picture is "Cultural Roots".

Crossing III"Crossing III" is my third etching in a series on immigration. An eagle is flying over an abandoned ancient city. New life in the form of leaves and stems proliferate across crumbling walls. As a generation of new immigrants, it is not easy to overcome old habits, but we strive to overcome and persevere. Water ripples at the bottom of the image, with several small fishes thriving. Through the hole in the center of the wall, one can view a house by a quiet lake in the distance. Thick clouds and dark nights obscure the eagle flight, but it continues……

Crossing IIMy recent work "Crossing II" is inspired by my life experience from Beijing to Avon, I used the Phoenix image fly out from center cave with freehand board strokes in the background to express the power of life. The balance between eastern and western life have been strong indicated through my art.
